Founded in 1821 by Peter Brown, the Linkwood distillery was completely rebuilt in 1872. Nearly a century later, in 1971, a new adjoining distillery, called Linkwood N, was built. The two distilleries operated together until 1996 when the old Linkwood was closed down for good. This ‘very cloudy’ version is a remarkably fresh and freshly expressed version of the complex and clean style of this single malt, considered by connoisseurs around the world to be one of the finest in the Speyside region.
Nose: Fresh and concentrated. Very slightly medicinal (camphor) and liquorice, the first nose is also deliciously fruity (pear) and tenderly herbaceous and mentholated. When aired, grains of barley literally roll over the palate and accentuate the malty character of the aromatic palette.
Tasting Notes:
Palate : Elegant, well-balanced. Particularly greedy (candied fruit cake), the attack in the mouth quickly becomes fruity, juicy (tangerine) and exotic (pineapple, banana). In the mid-palate, aromatic herbs (mint, camomile) and heady floral flavours (linden) give a lot of character to the taste palette.
Finish: Long, serene. Very malty and liquorice, the beginning of the finish takes us to the middle of a bucolic and green landscape. Remarkably salty, the finish is both mineral (slate) and candied (pear).
